Course

At the Danish Armed Forces Flight Training Squadron, I held a course in graphic facilitation for their teaching team and administration.

Visuals, whether on flipcharts, whiteboards or smartboards, should be seen as a complement to power point, and together they can enhance learning and help students understand and remember new concepts and processes.

We went through the basic elements and how to build templates for meetings, workshops and training.

During the two days we went through:
🖍 The basics of graphic facilitation
🖍 Visualized lesson plans, agendas and processes
🖍 Large format and layout was practiced

"It's easier than you think", "With just a few strokes I can draw" and "You can use it in many ways" - some of the participants said.

Danish Technological Institute
Visual summary

Do you find it hard to remember everything that's said when you're at a conference?

Then maybe you need to gather today's golden nuggets in one place!

I helped the Danish Technological Institute with this when they held the conference The Great Secretary Day 2021 at Comwell in Copenhagen.

The amazing speakers from the day were:

Mia Wagner, Henrik Leslye, Line Ullmann, Yvonne Evers and Charlotte Bøving. And last but not least, thanks to Louise Wolff, who ran the show!

Tønder Municipality
Course for subject matter experts and development consultants

12 department heads, subject specialists and project managers from Tønder Municipality got to draw for more than 12 hours in 2 days.

I spent two exciting and creative days with a team of super creative students.

🖍 Agendas and processes were visualized
🖍 Abstract concepts like co-creation, values and ownership were iconized
🖍 Templates made large format, ready to use at work

Frequently asked questions about graphic facilitation

Graphic or visual facilitation helps you visualize words and messages in meeting agendas, project plans, processes or minutes. It makes it easier for you to facilitate, plan and execute processes, meetings, workshops and conferences.

It does this because you get to set images and words on volatile concepts so that you gain a common understanding.

You use illustrations and icons in combination with words to facilitate a process, meeting or workshop. It gives all participants a common understanding of content and goals because our minds remember images more easily than text. It provides a common frame of reference.

You can specifically use the method as a tool to:

  • scheduler
  • summaries
  • project planner
  • processes
  • brainstorming
  • feedback and dialog
  • meetings
  • workshops
  • Education
  • Change, strategy and innovation processes
  • conferences

Just like anything else, it's important to have the right gear when drawing!

I always recommend Neuland markers.

When you join a Talkingstrokes course, you always get a starter kit:

  • Two black outline pens
  • A shadow pen
  • Two colored markers
  • A Talkingstrokes penal house

Graphic facilitation gives you and your colleagues/employees common references for concepts and processes that are high up on the abstraction ladder. In concrete terms, this means that you have a common starting point and a common understanding.

At the same time, the method creates an overview and activates the meeting participants. This makes it much easier (and more fun!) to collaborate.

At Talkingstrokes, you can get both basic and advanced courses.
